Morning Tea with a Tanzanian Bishop

This week, it was a blessing to host Bishop Mwita Akiri of the Diocese of Tarime, Tanzania. Together with Anglican Aid, Dapto Anglican Church and St Luke’s Preschool have partnered with Tarime Preschool. Our morning tea earlier this week was a wonderful expression of that partnership in the gospel as we raised money in support of the work God is doing in and through Tarime Preschool.

Mission is about time and relationships, whether that is cross-cultural relationships in a global mission or relationships with fellow Aussies in a local mission. It takes time and energy to build and strengthen relationships as we partner together in the gospel. The morning tea was a wonderful way to strengthen this partnership as we got to hear the stories of Tarime Preschool and understand the social and religious context in Tanzania more broadly. The preschool provides quality education, not only training up Christian leaders but also being an avenue for many kids to come to faith as they attend the preschool, despite not being Christian when they arrive. This partnership that we have with Tarime Preschool is one example of how Dapto Anglican is participating in mission in a global sense.

This coming Sunday (September 8th), we begin a new sermon series as we look at the early chapters of the Book of Acts. The series is titled ‘Stepping Out: Local and Global Mission’ as we explore mission from God’s Word and seek to apply it as a church to our life together both as we Step Out locally and to the ends of the earth.
