Jesus is King and Calls Us to Keep Trusting

As many farmers and writers point out, “growth begins with the sowing of seed.”

This is true in every area of life. This truth is true in the plant kingdom, vegetable kingdom and is certainly most true in the spiritual Kingdom of Heaven. I have become more and more convinced that change happens in our lives when we continue to pay attention to the daily seeds we sow (Gal. 6:7-8).

We always need to remember; we can only reap what we sow. In fact, we always reap more than we sow but always in proportion to what we have sown or planted. We cannot expect to reap a harvest if we have not sown accordingly. Yes, it is true that if you sow in seeds, in generosity or in love, you will reap more than you sow. There are so many areas I could point to like families or financially sowing into God’s Kingdom, to relationships, faithfulness, compassion and mercy and the list goes on. Of course, the harvest we wait for in many of these situations will take time.

I like the way Robert Louis Stevenson puts it, “Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” More often than not, seeds are sown quietly, if not secretly, but the harvest is seen by many. Yet the blood, sweat and tears that go into actually sowing, is often much harder. Think of the famers; their sleepless nights, concern over their harvest and the question of whether the rain will come; wondering if it will work this time. In fact, those who experience most joy from the harvest had nothing to do with the sowing. The hours, weeks and years of faithful sowing will always benefit others.

So, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers (Gal 6:9-10).
